Presbyterian Women (PW) is an independent organization within the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) of more than 300,000 women. The programming and resource options for the organization offer a variety of ways for women to live out their faith in an inclusive, caring community. We invite you to join us on our spiritual journey.
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
To support the mission of the church worldwide,
To work for justice and peace, and
To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and witnesses to the promise of God’s Kingdom.
Mayberry Presbyterian Women
Joining with the women of Bluemont Presbyterian, our Presbyterian Women (PW) meet monthly September – June for Bible study, missions work, and fellowship.
Currently we are studying Proverbs: Uncommon Sense; Bible Study that Builds Christian Community. This series makes real-life application of the scripture the focus of our discussions in seeking God’s will for our lives. Our upcoming lessons include:
We meet at 10:00 am on the second Thursday of each month in the Mayberry Community Outreach Center. Below is a schedule of our upcoming meetings in 2015:
June 11 - Family Picnic at Bluemont
December 10 - Christmas Luncheon
Our PW is active in local and global missions. We support and participate in the following mission activities
Hearts for Heaven, Inc. – Our PW sponsors a child in the daily feeding program of this ministry
Presbyterian Children’s Home of the Highlands – Mayberry is a covenant church, providing financial support. One of our members serves on the Board of Directors.
PW Presbytery Project – A Presbytery-wide project of PW of the Peaks is providing personal care kits for clients in area women’s shelters.
Chemo Caps – Our members knit and crochet hats for chemo patients. These are delivered to an oncology center in Mt. Airy where one of our members is receiving treatment.
Prayer Shawls – Our members knit and crochet lap robes and shawls to distribute to members and friends who are in need of a tangible reminder of God’s love.
The Legacy Center – Twice a year we have a baby shower for this pregnancy resource center in Mt. Airy.
Operation Shoebox – We collect travel-size toiletries and hotel samples to send to this organization who then creates care packages for our soldiers deployed overseas.
Patrick Backbacks – This weekend feeding program at our local elementary school provides non-perishable food for children and their families when school is not in session. They also provide holiday meals for needy familes.
Local Community Outreach – Our church has identified three areas of need in our local community – drug use, volunteering at the elementary school, and services for the elderly. We meet monthly for information and planning to meet some of these needs.
